Green Film and MIA - A 6-year-long partnership for sustainability

October 10, 2024

The next edition of MIA will once again be ISO 20121 certified and will put the wellbeing of audiovisual workers at its center.

From October 14 to 18, 2024, Rome will host the 10th edition of MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo, which, thanks to a partnership with Trentino Film Commission and Green Film, will again this year be certified as a sustainable event. The MIA is committed for the sixth year to increase and improve activities serving the film industry, espousing the values of environmental, social and economic sustainability.

The organizers of MIA, ANICA and APA supported by Trentino Film Commission and Green Film, have been obtaining from 2019 the ISO 20121 certification, the international standard for the certification of sustainable management systems for events, which will be confirmed for this tenth edition as well. Industry events are an important means of raising awareness and reaching out to the whole sector, inviting to adopt behaviors under the banner of sustainability while keeping the focus on the environment high.

Here are all the events that Green Film will be involved in at MIA:

  • The initiative successfully proposed in the last last years is confirmed for this edition, giving the projects selected in the MIA’s Co-Production Market & Pitching Forum (for the Doc, Drama and Film divisions) the opportunity for a one-on-one appointment with an expert from Green Film.
  • A panel entitled Green Film: Toward a More Socially Sustainable and Productive Industry  will be held on Oct. 16 at 10:30 a.m. in Room Cinema 6.  Adopting a sustainable approach today also means, in a broader sense, turning our attention to other forms of sustainability besides environmental sustainability.
The wellbeing of workers in the audiovisual industry is an issue that is increasingly intertwined with the good health of a company:  acting in this sense, in addition to improving the quality of the working environment, can ensure a significant return on investment, translating into increased productivity and company competitiveness. The Green Film Rating System, with its recent update, also encourages producers to adopt labour practices aimed at improving the sustainability of production from a social point of view.
The panel therefore intends to illustrate and discuss processes and new professional figures that can help productions foster a healthier and fairer work environment, offering insights and concrete experiences that are emerging and dialogue on how to import and implement the good practices from the European to the Italian context.
