Who are the Italian ‘Monuments Men’, those who saved works of art during the Second World War? In spite of their immense heritage, they are few, mostly young. The most representative of them is Pasquale Rotondi, an almost unknown hero who saved around 10,000 artworks, including Giorgione’s enigmatic La Tempesta and Caravaggio’s La Cena di Emmaus from the German bombings and raids.
